Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need help?

Perhaps you don’t. But if you are not accustomed to writing; if you are feeling overwhelmed with the responsibilities of the loss of your loved one, or if you are looking for a unique way to honor your loved one’s memory, AfterWords can assist you. That’s what we do.

How long does it take to have a Life Story written and a program printed?

We work with your schedule.  We understand that you are probably working with a short timeframe to accommodate planned services.  If we agree to write your loved one’s Life Story, or write the Life Story as well as design and print the program, AfterWords promises to meet the deadlines we establish with you.

How do I go about getting a Life Story written?

AfterWords provides a form that requests all of the basic information about an individual (age, family members, church affiliation, etc.).  To ensure that the Life Story is very personal, AfterWords will need to talk with a person who was close to your loved one.

Is the form difficult to complete?

The comprehensive form can be completed quickly and easily. AfterWords provides a simple (see Life Story Form), but thorough form that you can complete as a PDF using Adobe Acrobat document and e-mail, or the form can be printed out and completed. The printed form can be faxed to AfterWords or the relevant information can be shared by telephone. Please see Contact Us for e-mail address and phone/fax numbers.

How will my program look?

AfterWords provides professionally designed programs. You have a choice of several beautiful designs (see Program Samples) or a custom design that we can help you develop.

How much does a Life Story cost?

Writing: The cost of a Life Story is based on length (average length 400-1,200 words), desired format and other services provided (e.g., production assistance, writing and editing of family testimonials, etc.). See Writing Samples for examples of Life Stories (listed below each title is the number of words in the story). In general, a Life Story will cost between $175 to $225 to write.

Design and Printing: The cost of producing a program is based on the type of program you select (see Program Samples). Most people print between 200 and 300 programs at a cost of $1 to $2 per program.

Consequently, the writing, design and printing of 200 standard programs would cost an estimated $425 to $550 (note: cost per item decreases with quantity).

We can provide you with an estimate for writing or for both writing and producing your program. Please contact info@lifeafterwords.com or call 314.361.8572 for a price quote.
